The Power of a Purée!

The Power of a Purée!

Babies are generally introduced to purée foods at the age of 6 months, the weaning stage! It can be one of the funniest and cutest ways to see what flavours your little one likes by their facial expressions! With so many nutritious and delicious foods out there, this post is about the effectiveness of purées and why we should continue to enjoy them even as adults!

After the weaning stage is over and your little ones start eating solid foods, I'm sure you will make them try all of your favourite dishes and they will start to have their favourite foods to choose from. However, it's good to know that your little one's digestion system takes time to mature, breaking down solid foods is much harder for the body to do than simply taking nutrients from puréed foods. Hence, it is a good idea to give the body a rest from time to time, cleanse the colon and to not give up on purées at an early age as it will benefit the body for the years to come!

There are so many ways you can incorporate yummy soft foods into their diets, all you need is a fork (if the food is soft to begin with) a handheld blender/blender or a food processor and you're good to go. Choose from whatever foods you like and add a liquid like stock, broth, gravy, sauces, milk, water, juices, yoghurt, cream or any other liquid depending on what you are making and choose the consistency you want. Recently, I made a chicken thigh soup with lots of vegetables, herbs and spices, whizzed it all up and the flavour came out so tasty! After, me and my toddler made a healthy fruit smoothie together, full of sweetness and we easily got past the recommended 5 a day!

It can help massively if you have a poorly bubba who doesn't really want to eat anything or if you have a picky eater, both examples express the need to get a good nutrition intake and delicious purées can help! As I write these posts I always think about those that don't even have as much as food or safe drinking water. Wishing and praying that the world was a fair place where little ones have the same resources to live a happy and healthy life. There are some really incredible organisations out there that help tackle malnutrition and we can help too! Check out Pious Projects https://piousprojects.org/discover who are currently helping different countries across the world with food and water crises as well as the recognised Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations who undertake work on  this worldwide problem with care and devotion. https://www.fao.org/home/en
