A Valentine’s Gift from My Little Glowlet

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, organised by Place2Be and this year’s theme is “This Is My Place.”

Belonging begins somewhere. For little ones, their very first place is home. Home is where we first learn about love. Where we learn we are safe. Where our roots begin to grow. Before wings, there must be roots.

As children grow, they begin to discover new places where they belong, a reading corner, a playground, a classroom, a library. For me, it was school, the library and in nature! Where was yours as a child?  And now, in a beautiful full-circle moment, I find myself working in a wonderful infant and primary school as the librarian and educator surrounded by little ones and children discovering their own special places. That is where My Little Glowlet was born.

A story about patience. About the love between parent and infant. About taking your time. About growing slowly from roots to wings. When children feel they belong at home, they carry that security with them into the world. Their confidence grows. Their curiosity grows, they begin to shine. And so, this Valentine’s Day, we are sharing a small gift.
