Love of a Mother

Love of a Mother

I remember seeing this part of Pablo Picasso's masterpiece, 'Guernica' in Madrid at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and having the strongest reaction to it compared to everything else in the museum. I could feel the pain through the picture and I was not a mother back then, but now that I am and seeing what is happening in Palestine, I was reminded of what Picasso drew, the pain and the heartache. https://www.museoreinasofia.es/coleccion/obra/guernica

I was going to post this on Monday, 7/10/24 a year after watching the violent attacks, death and destruction but I didn't have the words. However, to my surprise today someone had the same thoughts as me, but they actually went to a museum and stuck on top of the serene, countryside mother and son Picasso painting, a picture of a mother and son in Gaza covered in blood, distressed. The contrast of both pictures was powerful, that young man and woman were brave to have demonstrated like that, that I had to find some words today.

I can't speak for all mothers as everyone has a completely different experience but being pregnant and growing a tiny little human inside of you is the most beautiful, magical and jubilant feeling in the world. You are one with two lives, in my opinion it is the most special experience I will ever experience. Then to give birth, love and care for them takes it to an extraordinary feeling and experience. Now, can you imagine that this innocent little soul is taken away from you because they've been bombed by warmongers, its unnatural, unfair and unforgivable. Now in this digital age we can see everything happening from our phones, all of the unnecessary suffering, it's just like this anti war Picasso painting but he had to expose it through his art.

The love of a mother and a father is deep rooted, no parent or child should have to suffer like this. God bless all of those living through this grief, to the little ones who have gone and to those who are trying to help hopefully we will see an end to this horror asap.
