Let Little Ones Be Little Ones: Why We’re Redefining Child Imagery in Advertising
In a world where screens dominate and digital footprints can be permanent, we at My Little Everything believe it’s time to change. This is not to criticise or offend anyone, but rather to introduce a new approach, one that prioritises children's privacy and well-being in the digital age.
Protecting Childhood in a Digital Age
Every day, children’s images are shared online, by brands, influencers, and even well-meaning parents. But once an image or video is posted, it can be saved, misused, and repurposed without consent. The implications of this digital exposure are vast, raising questions about privacy, autonomy, and the long-term impact of a child’s online presence.
That’s why we started The MLEverything Movement, a commitment to protecting childhood by choosing not to use real children in our advertising. The time is NOW. Instead, from this day forward, 1/3/25 we exclusively use AI-generated child models, allowing us to celebrate the magic of childhood without compromising a child’s right to privacy.
Ethical Early Years: A New Standard
At My Little Everything, we are pioneering an Ethical Early Years approach, one that ensures children can live their childhood fully before being exposed to the digital world. This movement isn’t about taking children out of the creative process; it’s about ensuring they have the choice to share their image when they’re old enough to understand what it means.
Why AI? Thoughtfully Created, Ethically Used
We recognise that AI-generated imagery is a new and evolving technology, but for us, it serves a clear ethical purpose: ✔ Protecting Children’s Privacy No real children are exposed online ✔ Ensuring Autonomy Kids aren’t placed in ads before they can consent ✔ Reducing Pressure There’s no expectation for children to model ✔ Promoting Responsible Innovation We embrace technology to safeguard childhood.
We Love Seeing Real Children Happy
We love seeing real children happy, playing, and enjoying their childhood. This is such a precious time in their lives, one that deserves to be nurtured and protected. Our approach isn’t about removing children from media or silencing their presence. Instead, it’s about recognising that childhood is fleeting, and we want to ensure it remains a time of joy and innocence, free from unnecessary digital exposure.
Addressing Common Questions
Does this mean family photos shouldn’t be shared? Not at all! Cherishing and sharing special family moments is a beautiful part of family life. However, in a commercial setting, where images are used to market and sell products, we believe it’s time for a new approach (especially when there is an alternative) one that prioritises a child’s right to privacy.
What is ‘Ethical Early Years’? Ethical Early Years is our commitment to ensuring that childhood remains about play, exploration, and growth in the real world. It’s about keeping kids out of marketing until they’re old enough to decide for themselves.
How do AI-generated models help? By eliminating the need for real child photoshoots, we reduce digital exposure risks while still showcasing the joy of childhood. We thoughtfully design our AI-generated images to reflect real world diversity, warmth, and authenticity.
A Movement for the Future
Some will love this approach, and some may not. We understand that parents of child models may have different perspectives, and we respect their choices. Our decision is not meant to diminish the work of talented young models or their families. Instead, it’s about offering an alternative approach, one that aligns with our vision of ethical marketing and child protection.
One thing is undeniable: childhood deserves protection. As technology advances, we have a responsibility to use it wisely, to create a safer, more ethical landscape for future generations.
We invite you to join us in this movement. Share, support, and start the conversation. Let’s champion a world where childhood is truly cherished, and where ethical innovation leads the way.
