Little Language Lovers!

Little Language Lovers!

Here at My Little Bilingual Books we love languages and encourage bilingualism, however we also acknowledge that some families just want to teach their children one language, their native tongue. Whether it is one, two or three languages your child is learning, development in communication is key to helping your little one express themselves and help you understand them!

We want to signpost to you a brilliant, educational and helpful website that can give you tips, advice, activities and overall ideas that will help build your little one's communication skills. The renowned BBC (British Broadcasting Company) has created a site; https://www.bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people

It's fantastic, check it out and I'm sure you'll find something that interests you for your family. Taken from the 'About' page on their website, I'd like to share what they do and want to achieve. Although it is focused on UK statistics, the substance of the material is universal and can be used for all little ones across the world. Read below-

Language lets children express themselves and tell others how they feel.

When children start school they should be able to speak to their new friends in full sentences, ask teachers simple questions and understand what they’re told to do. When they have these skills they’ll feel more confident and they’ll be happier.

But children starting school all across the UK today are unable to do these things.

In England, 1 in 4 children starting primary school are behind with their level of literacy development (language, communication and literacy skills), rising to more than 1 in 3 (42%) in some areas (Department for Education, 2019). The picture is similar in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland too.

Language and communication skills unlock literacy, and that’s why Tiny Happy People is concentrating on the building blocks of language development.
